Historically, the bathhouse was a civic space for collective bathing, relaxation, and social exchange. These communal places of refuge offered saunas, hydrotherapy, and contemplative courtyards. To adapt the bathhouse to function today, we created a multilevel facility with pools at a range of temperatures, along with public and private spaces. The defining geometry comes from intersecting blocks set over a grid that hooks the massings together. The elevation and function of each space also respond to the slope and to the Trinity River, which runs alongside the building.
